Journey History
To tell the history of The Journey, you have to first talk about the Happening, so I'll begin there. In 1987 the Cursillo Community decided there needed to be a youth 3 day weekend, so in December of that year 6 adults and 6 youth went through Episcopal Happening #19 on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Then in the Spring of 1988 the first United Methodist Happening was held at Camp Garawya in Clinton. After that all Happenings were held in churches. The Happening has gotten better and better since that time and it's ministry has really spread. In 1998 several adults who had been involved in the Happening realized that there was a need for a college 3 day weekend. So in February of 1999, 1 adult and 5 college students went together to the Episcopal Vocare weekend. In November of 1999 these same people were on staff at another Vocare and several other adults and students went through. Finally, in February of 2000, we had the first Journey at Broadmeadow UMC in Jackson. Broadmeadow UMC had continued to allow us to have The Journey there and at this time there are 2 a year. The Lord has really continued to blessed this movement and we have approximately 40 college age people to go through each time. Look what the Lord can do when a lot of people are just open to His calling.
